Chris Phelps – Pastor

Chris comes to Southeast from the First Baptist Church in Graham, NC where he was Minister of Education for over 14 years. He began his work as Pastor in June of 2009. He has over 30 years of ministerial experience serving in churches in Durham, NC; South Boston, VA; Monroe, NC; Graham, NC; and Greensboro, NC. Chris is a 1983 graduate of Elon College with a BA degree in Human Services and a 1986 graduate from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master’s degree in Divinity with Religious Education. He is a loyal UNC Tarheel fan who enjoys playing basketball weekly at the gym, playing golf, and helping with SESO soccer in the spring and fall. He and his wife, Becky, live in Julian, NC. They have two daughters, Caroline and Rosemary.

Rubianne Ochs – Music Director

Rubianne is a recent graduate of Brevard College, where she majored in Vocal Performance. She loves to provide musical avenues to all people, of all ages, that may yearn for the ability and opportunity to worship God through music.

Scott Bennett – Youth Director

Scott has been a member of Southeast Baptist Church since 1982. He has worked with the youth since 2017. He enjoys photography and is an avid automotive enthusiast. He works at Bill Black Chevrolet Cadillac, resides in Julian, and has two sons, Tyler and Jon.

Laura McCallister – Financial Services Director

Laura joined the staff as Secretary and Director of Financial Services in 2021, has been a member of Southeast Baptist Church since 2011, and has served on the deacon board, the leadership council, stewardship committee, and enjoys being a part of the handbell choir. Laura came to Greensboro in the 80’s to work for Jefferson Pilot Fire and Casualty and enjoyed over 30 years in the insurance industry. Mother of 4, grandmother of 12, and great grandmother of 10, Laura resides in Greensboro where she enjoys painting, reading, and horses.

Tyson Hankins – Pianist

Tyson has been a part of the music ministry since 2004. His ministry of music and his eagerness to serve others has been a blessing to Southeast. He also works at Elon University in the Music Department and Performing Arts Department. Tyson is an accomplished pianist and musician. He is a graduate of Jacksonville University with a BM degree in Piano Performance and Composition/Theory and a 2007 graduate of UNC-Greensboro with a MM degree in Piano Accompanying and Chamber Music. He enjoys playing for community theater and musicals. He, his wife Caroline, his daughter Molly, and his son Carson live in Greensboro.
