Woolverton - Dan Lynch Series
|
When a child is to be born into a family, often considerable energy and time is given to the choice of a name or names. If the baby is a girl, this will be the name. If the baby is a boy … and so forth. I heard recently of a couple who decided to let their child name herself. On her second birthday she named herself Alice. Some names are given because of family tradition. Others are selected because of a special relationship. Whatever the reason for the choice, every name has meaning. I have a son named Michael. The name means “one who is like God.” Our prayer for him was and is that he will become Christ-like in all his ways. Our other son is named Joel. The meaning? “The Lord is God!” A statement of affirmation…a declaration of truth. Names are important. They become a crucial and integral part of our lifelong identity. We even hear people challenge another person with these words…”we want you to live up to your name.” Jesus (one of the ways we know Him) came into this world under the umbrella of a host of names…terms, each of which capture a piece of his identity. Package them all together and you find that you have a full expression of the meaning of God coming in the flesh. The daily devotions for this year will help explore some of who Jesus is to a large group of disciples. You are encouraged to come along-side them and hear what they have to share as they reflect on who Jesus is for them. With Care, Jim Wayne |
